I spend a good amount of time on discussion forums, trying to debate issues. You notice I said "trying". In the last twenty years or so. the debate and exchange has been replaced with insults and hate.
There is no longer an intelligent exchange of ideas; it seems to almost always digress into insults and attempts at bullying people they do not agree with. Sad and just f*cking silly! The discission of politics is no longer a subject to exchange ideas with respect and intelligence; now it is all about the hate, the insults and the throwing of mindless platitudes.
It is sad that an analyst cannot give an opinion without some mindless f*ck attacking his position. Personally, I do not give a sh*t! If someone wants to hurl insults, I can play; I would prefer an exchange of ideas, but if it digresses to insults---SO BE IT!

The worst place I've found about that is somewhere that has the acronym LF, yet I still end up going there anyway.
There's an element to a lot of people who need an entertainment aspect mixed in with an issue. Most of comedy revolves around ranking on someone or something (people, society, language, common patterns) unfortunately--the only kinds that don't are silly humor and potty humor.
People have gotten used to getting their news from sources that interject the way they feel more than the facts of the story itself.
Most news stories that have 15 paragraphs could be said in just one paragraph if they just reported what they actually KNOW, unless, of course, one is talking about the quotes of what someone is saying. Then when quotes are being chosen--even if the agenda for getting the quotes is the same, different people, depending on how they feel, will choose radically different quotes from one another.
I have been guilty myself of going into the insult mode once I've been insulted--if "I've" done it at other times than that, it has not been on purpose--I generally try very hard to watch myself in those areas. Obviously I'm human.
I know this wasn't something towards me (at least I hope it wasn't), so my only reason for the last paragraph is the fact that it makes me think about those kinds of aspect about myself.
That was a great blog/post/rant. It really got me thinking.
